Day 10 Milan

We farewelled Venice but unfortunately James had eaten something which made him sick. He was not well for about 12 hours so the train trip to Milan for him was very quiet. We arrived in Milan and walked to our hotel which was not far - very nice accommodation. We then used the Underground to travel to the Duomo. A spectacular Cathedral in the middle of Milan. We climbed the 250 steps to the roof where you get great views across the city. Looked around the Piazza and ate gelato ..... the gelato was not as good as Venice. We then returned to the hotel where the boys swam in the pool and Julia and I went shopping. The Spring collections were in the shops .... we were tempted and did buy a few things. We enjoyed a meal at a local restaurant where the waiter spoke English and when he found out we were from Australia asked us if we lived near 'Home and Away'.
We are now on the train to Nice. Luckily we had reserved seats on the train but they must sell more tickets then seats because people are standing in the aisle and if you leave your seat they ask if they can have it. That's Italy for you ...... We have enjoyed touring Italy. The weather, food and cities have been great and people very helpful, friendly and tolerant of our stilted grammar.
We are on our way to Nice and are due to arrive this afternoon. Picking up a car to start driving across the south of France - we are now starting to 'look right' first when crossing roads.
Ciao from Italy.
