Day 8 Rome to Venice

Day 8 - Rome to Venice
We said ciao to Rome and caught a train to Venice. The train trip was smooth with green countryside to look at. Then you cross the lagoon and enter Venice. We had forgotten how beautiful and unique Venice is .... It is breath-taking. We caught a vaporetto (water bus) to the San Silvestri stop, which is one on from the San Rialto stop near the Rialto Bridge. Our hotel is on the grand canal (thank you Amelia for the recommendation - the hotel is beautiful). Found our way through narrow walkways to Ca Angeli. Dropped the bags off and then walked the cobbled streets for four hours. We walked to the Piazza San Marco and then continued wandering in the back 'streets'. I have taken so many photos ..... every corner you turn, there is a beautiful bridge, canal, building or piazza. On the Rialto Bridge we were taking a photo and I thought a tourist was offering to take a group photo for us. We said thankyou and lined up ... then he started aiming the camera on a weird angle and shooting away (turned out to be good photo). I did worry that we were going to lose the camera but he gave it back and told us a story about Venice for 1 Euro. We had a shower of rain but it didn't detract from Venice's beauty. All the shops look tempting especially the glass shops. Dined at a restaurant by a canal and we all enjoyed the pasta dishes. We are booked to see the Doge's Palace and Bell-tower tomorrow and plan to visit St Marks Basilica. Hopefully we will also visit some shops. Ciao from Venezia.
